Personalizing Accessibility Features on Your Mobile Device

Last week, I provided some ways to personalize your preferred web browser to meet your needs. This week, I’m providing links to Android and iOS support for accessibility features.  Even if you don’t have a specific disability, adjusting your accessibility settings may make your mobile experience more delightful!

Android

Android Accessibility Help

Settings > System > Accessibility > Vision, Hearing, Motor & Cognition

  • TalkBack (screen reader)
  • Message/call voice notifications
  • Screen shade
  • Font Size
  • Touch zoom
  • Screen color inversion
  • Screen color adjustment
  • Captions
  • Flash alerts
  • Audio type
  • Sound balance

Other options:

  • Haptic feedback (Settings > Sound & notification > Advanced Settings > Vibrate on tap)
  • Voice Control/Information (depends on your device and apps)
  • Voice Search
  • Text-to-speech output (Settings > Personal > Language & keyboard > Speech): Adjust Preferred Engine, Rate, and Pitch.
  • Keyboards (Settings > Personal > Language & keyboard > Keyboard & input methods): The Play Store offers a variety of different keyboard apps which may provide a better experience for some users.  Remember that you are not limited to your default keyboard. And, sometimes typing is easier on an actual keyboard, so check out physical Bluetooth keyboard options available for Android and/or iOS devices.

iOS
