As I ponder the last day of the last week of classes for the fall 2016 semester, the 1980 song “Celebrate Good Times…Come On!” from Kool & the Gang popped into my head. I know that it’s the time for Christmas carols and holiday cheer, and many people (faculty, staff, and students alike) are eagerly looking forward to the holiday break. However, I would like to remind everyone to live in the now and celebrate the filling of accomplishment for making it through another semester.
As we move into finals week, I would like to leave you with a few thoughts and findings to help you and the students through next week and to begin preparing for the next long semester.
- Last year I wrote about A Student-Centered Final. This year I would like to share with you “A Memo to Students about Studying for Finals.”
- A few short weeks ago, I shared “How Will You Spend Your Break?” While I encourage each and every one of you to rest and rejuvenate, I also encourage you to begin thinking about the next year. What do you want to accomplish? What’s your goal? If you are planning on increasing your professional development and continuing your own learning, I encourage you to visit “Professional Development – In Three Forms” and the post about what our student can teach us.
- And, finally, I wish each and every one of you a very happy holiday season!
